Flash Mod – Nov 2025
“Modellers of Salisbury Assemble”…
The FLASHMOD organised for 29th November was at a different venue, with thanks to 1st Amesbury Scouts for hall hire as our previous venue was not available. The excellent lighting and decent space was well needed with 15 builders on parade (an additional few were unable to attend at the last minute and Tony came along too…)
As always, once the clock hit 10.00 everyone knuckled down for 6 hours of building- with no extra time allowance made for the 3 who arrived at 10.05hrs- you know who you are!
As said, Tony came along electing to draw plans for a future model rather than glue parts. Once set up he looked like he was Invigilating the event, making sure no-one was cheating or having too many cakes.
(Yes there was cake from Sibo, Chocolates from Roisin, tea, coffee, even Hot Choc for Nick. Tammy, Sophie and Roisin took time from their builds to go around the tables to see who wanted a brew or to offer a dip into the chocolate tin. Seems very chauvinistic as I write the names but it was a lovely touch. Some of the male club members needed every second they could get in order to complete their builds, so it saved them waiting for the kettle to boil.)
While everyone seemed incredibly focused, the normal banter, advice, cajoling, frustrated yelling and laughter served as the sound track to the event, along with the rumble of compressors and the odd head-scratching sound as instructions were mulled over.
It was hard to tell how models would turn out as progress seemed good on many fronts.
At the end of 6 hours of intense modelling the table showing what everyone had achieved was full showing a wide range of models; from Aircraft, Tanks and Artillery, Tractor tugs and Railway stock through Figures to 1/1 birds and Sci-fi suits. Obviously as Sibo was taking part it also displayed a half built aircraft kit at odds with what Richard, Julian and Chris had done with Aircraft in the same time span.
It was an Aircraft that Won the FALSHMOD vote but it was very close in the top 3. Chris Southwood’s name will go on the trophy for his Jet Proverst, though Tammy’s Robin was only a vote behind for the second place (and boy did her husband get grief for not voting for it on the way home!). Well done Aaron for the Canon in 3rd and Richard for the RAF Typhoon in 4th.
But all who took part can be proud of what was achieved in 6 hours, it was a totally enjoyable day.
