So, first stage of any aircraft kit is the cockpit; otherwise the pilot won’t know which way to face.
This old Hasegawan kit had several parts for the cockpit floor, seat and walls and even a few to add to the reasonably moulded cockpit walls.
I built these as sub assemblies, with the pilot, and painted separately.
These parts went together well and the task was not very complex. They were few in number and due to the size they weren’t fiddly either.
The actual cockpit was painted with the new Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire instructions as I thought the level of detail was greater than those in the Hasegawa instructions.
I used a few pictures of RAF pilots gear in museums to get the colours for the pilot, and chose red for his scarf.
Next step is to put the fuselage halves together, add wings and away we go!
